➤ Course Review

Oliver commenced by exploring the intricate relationship between social innovation and sustainable development. His objective was to familiarize students with the diverse applications of sustainable development in contemporary society. He then delved into the evolution of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which originated from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) formulated in 2000. In doing so, Oliver broadened the discussion to encompass the social, environmental, and economic dimensions of sustainability, highlighting the 17 SDGs as crucial focal points addressing urgent global challenges. To provide practical insights, Oliver also presented 17 case studies of organizations in Taiwan that have successfully achieved the SDGs. This enabled students to grasp the practical application and implementation of sustainability in their future personal or professional endeavors.

During the course, students were tasked with utilizing the Golden Circle framework to analyze the organizations they were affiliated with. By exploring the Why, How, and What aspects of these organizations, students acquired a foundational understanding that would prove essential for their upcoming internships spanning three months. A sharing session was organized, providing students with an invaluable opportunity to gain insight into a diverse range of organizations and deepen their understanding of sustainable development's multifaceted nature. Undoubtedly, this course left a lasting impact on the students, expanding their horizons and offering a truly meaningful and eye-opening experience.
