【Orientation & Training Course I】Introduction to iNGO Industries and SDGs

2024 iNGO Academy Orientation

In 2024, the NTU iNGO Academy admitted 21 students from 5 countries.At the Orientation, Johnny Wu, Head and Director of Global Relations, led theinternational talent cultivation team and students who are about to embark oninternships, and representatives from 13 organizations, including LudivineHoudet, Director of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Chiayo Kuo, the Presidentof Taiwan Digital Diplomacy Association (TDDA), Sebastian Lin, the DeputyExecutive Director of the Taiwan Equality Campaign, and so on. Additionally,partners from Impact Hub Taipei, including Rich Chen, the co-founder and CEO,and co-founder and COO, Oliver Chang, also joined the orientation. Approximately 60 tutors and students gathered to get to know each other furtherand discuss the internship and co-learning journey for the upcoming semester.

Prof. Helen Liu, Department of Political Science, National Taiwan University

Prof. Liu is an esteemed academic with a specialization in the field of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), drawing on her extensive research experience in the Americas and Hong Kong regions. Her expertise lies in comprehending the dynamics and evolution of international non-profit organizations (NPOs) and NGOs.

Apart from her scholarly pursuits, Prof. Liu is actively involved in teaching a course on "Nonprofit Management" at National Taiwan University. Her dedication and excellence in teaching have earned her accolades, including the Outstanding Teaching Faculty in English award at National Taiwan University and the prestigious Outstanding Research Award from NSTC (National Science and Technology Council). Prof. Liu's notable achievements and contributions further solidify her reputation as a respected figure in the academic community.

➤ Course Review

Following the orientation, the first training course commenced withProfessor Helen K. Liu from the Department of Political Science of NTU servingas the lecturer. The course delved into the definition of iNGOs, the concept ofsustainable development goals (SDGs), and discussions on organizational values,positioning, and future prospects. The class concluded with the encouragementfor students to actively engage and communicate with members of theorganizations during their internships. Professor Liu emphasized the importanceof combining one's background strengths and aligning with SDGs to identifyareas where they can bring value to the organization.
